The goal of this meeting is to explore how the research and development agenda of leading computer and imaging scientists might more usefully and effectively serve the requirements of art historians, art curators and conservators, and scholars and practitioners in closely related disciplines. To stimulate and promote vigorous discussion, we have scheduled initial brainstorming sessions, followed by group discussions organized around five broad topics: image capture, image processing, image storage, image access and analysis, and improved user interfaces. We plan to meet in small groups and to regroup for reports and discussions after each session. Our expectation is that this interdisciplinary meeting will open productive lines of communication among all those involved in digital images of art and result in broader and increased access to and understanding of visual materials as part of the cultural record. |
